The Death of the Great American Novel

The car is
full of flies.

The competition
drives new trucks.

Sympathetic editors
have died off.

Books in
editions of
500 are
still in print.

The past has
vanished &
all its
reference points
with it.

The human race
has gone digital.

Cyberspace has
replaced
real space.

The Great
American novel
is dead.

The slaughter
continues.

The Lie
grows fat.

The children
hang on
but not
as long
as they
used to.

The dream
has ended.

The polar
ice melts.

The waters
rise.

The first
man lands
on Mars &
plants flags
& roses.

The sun
roars
like a
furnace.

Toys
for tots.

Garbage
accumulates.

Madame Curie
glows in
the dark.

Einstein pulls
in his
tongue &
recants.

700,000
homeless
on the
streets
of America.

Two &
a half
million women
& children
fuel the
sex trade.

Sex dies.

The horror
rolls thru
death’s portal
like a tank.

Let us pray.
