the will to survive

The Will to Survive

The air
all over
town is
thick with
cottonwood fluff
millions of
tiny particles
that look
almost like
insects that
want to
be trees.


The aspen
& the
maple &
mountain ash
tremble &
their leaves
turn golden
& red
& float
limp to
the ground,
oceans of
leaves that
get raked
up &
set afire
in barrels.
