losing our honey

Losing Our Honey

Sound the
clarion horn
blow your
penny whistle
let the
word go
forth spread
the news
here comes
the judge
blind justice
swinging her
meat ax
we’re all
going down
the good
the bad &
the ugly
the scales
will balance
out in
the long run
ten pounds
of hope
& good
cheer on
the chopping
block ten
pounds of
comeuppance
on the
waiting list
we can’t
kill the
bees &
still have
our honey
the grim
reaper has
made off
with our
honey &
there’s no
getting her
back again
there’s no
balcony to
stand under
& sing
our song,
no red
rose to
pin in
her hair.
