faking a smile

Faking a Smile

It’s never
too late to
toss old
notions.

To come
around to
a new
way of
seeing things.

To recant
repent &
repeal your
pleas &
demands.

Change isn’t
out of
the question.

Spruce up
& it’s
yours.

I sense
you’re not
buying it.

I sense
you’ve reeled
into the
black pit
of experience.

& yet…
it’s still
there,
that gleam
in your
eye.

Miles past
wishful thinking,
you fake
a smile.
