the bare minimum

The Bare Minimum

Amen to
the brothers
of the
cross hawking
rosaries.

Amen to
the end
of prayer.

Amen to
thrift stores
& accidental
tourists
plainspoken
cryptologists
& the
call girls
who decipher
their longing.

To all those
who keep
the ball
rolling the
proud wheel
turning the
mayhem
at simmer.

The twice
tangled knot
the shrill
cry for
amnesty the
crevice to
hide in.

Chirp like
a bird
if someone
looks in &
sees you
bask like
a lizard
give a
flash of
the evil eye,
about the
last option
left open.

This is
the bare
minimum
asked of
you by
those who’ve
gone on
before.
