the waiting game

The Waiting Game

I’m waiting
for the
other shoe
to drop.

The bell
to ring.

The message
to arrive.

The sentence
to be
passed.

The dream
to come
true.

I try
to look
busy while
I wait.

I don’t
stand around
staring,
no good
can come
of that.

People skirt
around me.

Bump
into me.

Laugh spit
& burst
into tears.

The grim
truth shakes
the tree
of life.

One false
move &
I’m
done for.
