Your Dancing Days Are Done

There’s no
time left
for reformation
retribution or
fine-tuned
adjustment for
explanations or
revelations for
waving the
white flag
in the
face of
the ogre.

Your dancing
days are
done your
dream
of the
four minute
mile your
string of
broken hearts
that crazed
explosion of
joy when
overcome by
a sunrise
all the
books you
thought you’d
write that
would set
the world
back on
its heels
your brash
claim to
everything.

You’ve been
trampled
under foot
& forgotten,
as if
you were
ever remembered.
