one way death comes

One Way Death Comes

Like a
slow
gray mother.

Like a
black cushion
closing in
from all
sides.

Your mind
empties,
washed out
& tepid.

The lilt
leaves
your voice.

“Hush now,”
says death.
“Hush.”

Things fade
into seamless
repetition.

You slide
into
capitulation.
