The hill, the official-looking wooden sign says, is now off-limits from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. The hill, it turns out, is officially a city park. Well I’ll be damned. This is the city’s way of striking a blow at the punks in pick-ups and hot rods who over the past few years have pitched camp up here.
This new ordinance has little if any effect on my routine, so why does it bother me? I’m all for driving the punks off the hill, but not with legalese that affects everyone. I’m for a clean frontal attack.
If strictly enforced, the ordinance poses a problem for the residents who live on the far side of the grass divide. To get home after 10:30 p.m., they will have to break the law by driving on the park road. And if, doubtfully, there is a legal mind among the punks, he should have a field day with this one.
