Dancing Heart

A letter today from my Dutch friend in California, someone I’ve known and moved around the world with for over fifty years, someone who spent his childhood in Indonesia in a Japanese prison camp, someone who was instrumental in shattering the last traces of my early conditioning, someone who showed me how to live life on the move gracefully and how to regroup fast.

A letter from him over-rides whatever else is going on in my life. A letter from him makes me happy just looking at the envelope.

So here I sit in Ellensburg, and there he is in the Bay Area, preparing to go to a memorial for MaryAnn, a dear friend to both of us and his ex-wife.

Being around those two always erased disappointment, and a letter from Abe the day after the rodeo onslaught sets my heart to dancing.
