Norwegians Pillaging the Coastline of My Heart

Last night
it was
brought to
my attention
that the
dwarf in
the garage
is the
Norwegian my
first wife
ran off
with forty
years ago.

That he’s
not really
a dwarf
he’s been
diminished
in stature
by regret.

That he
wants to
make amends.

I got
out of
bed before
sunrise this
morning &
put on
water
for coffee.

Sat in
the dark
at the
kitchen table
flicking the
flashlight on
& off.

Went thru
the dark
house to
the bathroom
& held
the flashlight
under my
chin while
looking in
the mirror.

But I
couldn’t
bring myself
to go
out to
the garage.
