Things Will Work Out

I’ve got my granddaughter and her four-year-old son Francis, my great-grandson, living in my back cottage. She was bouncing around from job to job west of the Cascades and leaving him here, there and everywhere while she worked. I’m hoping to be able to put some stability in their lives.

I wasn’t sure how it would work out at first, but yesterday after eating supper with them in the back yard, I announced, “Okay, I’ll take you guys to the Dairy Queen for some ice cream and we can eat it on the hill and watch the sun set.”

“Cool!” my granddaughter said, and Francis, after a moment’s reflection, said, “I’m extremely excited about that, G Man.”

Extremely excited! Four years old!

He calls me G Man, like my granddaughter does.

Then this afternoon, while I was in my front house transcribing Shards from yellow pads to computer, from outside thru the open window, Francis said, “What do I have to do to get in there?”

Man. He’s the only person I know who could interrupt my writing without generating some resentment.

Who knows for sure, but I think things will work out for all of us.
