pledging allegiance

Pledging Allegiance

Hope springs eternal
like a
Bouncing Betty
in the jungle &
rips the
green growth of
your dreams to
shreds.

But not
to worry,
back home
there’s a
corporate government
that although
it skimped on
your flak
vest has
saved you
a place
under a bridge
once the
V.A. sets
you up
with artificial
legs &
turns you
loose again,
a place
where you can
sleep in a
stove crate &
chow down at
a soup kitchen.

The Motherland
is there
for you,
soldier boy,
defender of
the free
market &
all our other
cherished freedoms.
