“Leap the ditch,” she said, threw me a kiss and walked away.
“I love you too,” I called after her, and the guy standing next to me said, “Leap the ditch?”
“A little bilingual play on words,” I said. “Leap the ditch, Lieb Dich, it means I love you. It’s German.”
“Well I know that,” he said. “I know Lieb Dich is German. But it’s bad German. She should have said, Ich liebe Dich, not Lieb Dich. I know what I’m talking about, I studied German for four years at a university.”
“Really?” I said. “Well good luck getting laid if you ever make it over there, talking the way you do…”
