stand-in

Stand-in

John lost
his memory
& went
comatose
five years
ago.

My name
is Billy
Lopez &
I’ve been
standing in
for him.

How am
I doing?

national security

National Security

To break free
even for
a few
minutes
each day
is to
threaten the
established order.

blue moon

Blue Moon

Skinny boy
tops 200
pounds &
thinks maybe
he should
become a
Sumo wrestler.

Well,
maybe not,
maybe launch
a weight
loss campaign
instead or
feed flies
to spiders.

The moon
is blue
& the
thing they
don’t write
books about
is about
to come
come unraveled.

huddled at the feet of facebook

Painting by Mark Bryan | Pie in the sky

Huddled at the Feet of Facebook

The cupboard
is bare
the barrel’s
been drained
the lease
has been
broken the
mood altered
the cows
didn’t come
home &
the dream
shattered.

But up
goes the
flag anyhow,
the price
of corn
& the
drones
and down
comes
the sky
as we
huddle at
the feet
of Moloch
in its
Facebook disguise.

middle-class white american holidays

Middle-class White American Holidays

Holidays for
the middle
class white
American are
barriers to
be crashed
thru year
after year
until he
gets dumped
in a
home where
he plays
bingo &
his kids
drop in
on Christmas
for a
visit.

cut me some slack

Cut Me Some Slack

The earth
would spin
out of
orbit if
I didn’t
write a
Shard a
day so
cut me
some slack.
