Consistency
I’m bringing
my chaotic
off-balance
life to a
chaotic
off-balance
close.
Who would
have thought
that consistency
would turn
out to
be my
strong suit.

I’m bringing
my chaotic
off-balance
life to a
chaotic
off-balance
close.
Who would
have thought
that consistency
would turn
out to
be my
strong suit.

The one
thing we’re
fully successful
at with
our children
is drumming
the innocence
out of them.

If you’re
afraid to
split your
infinitives &
dangle your
participles
you’re spineless.

Without expectations
the whole
world is
your oyster
& the
chances of
food poisoning
increase.

The crumbs
of neglect.
The crimes
of emotion.
The lashes
of progress.
Small children
huddled on
the dark
side of
the footlights,
clutching their
ticket stubs.
The geek
glare of
fame the
bizarre names
we lay
on it.
Pull the
plug &
it all
grinds into
blackness,
witch hunts
& moans.
Anything beyond
a heart
pumping blood
is deception.

It seemed
he should
be entitled
to more
to a
woman with
broad hips
high-IQ
children &
a stock
portfolio to
a short
vacation in
China to
a gold
speckled
nest egg
& a
full head
of hair
to a
diamond ring
that gleamed
in the
sun or
barring all
that a
small cottage
on a
beach somewhere
to smoke
his pipe
in &
ponder the
gray swell
of ocean.
But he
just kept
punching in
at his
day job
with legions
just like
him unaware
that each
other existed.
