street death

Street Death

People who
die alone
on the
street trigger
queer thoughts
that ripple thru
foot traffic.

They bring
down pigeons
from their
ledges.

They short-change
embalmers.

They leave
nothing to
identify them
except shoes
with holes
in them &
dirty underwear.

They are
champions
in a
discredited world.

Shoulder to the Wheel

Don’t trust
anyone who
tells you
you need
to become
a productive
member of
society.

Rat’s Ass Nirvana

Not giving
a rat’s
ass is
the same
thing as
Nirvana.

overcoming obstacles

Overcoming Obstacles

The
mind wounds
I received
as a
child
never healed.

I’ve just
learned
how to
function while
bleeding
like a
stuck pig.

playing with magic

Playing with Magic

That day
many years
ago just
after sunrise
I was
driving north
on Water
Street &
Bobby S
was driving
south &
when we
were no
more than
twenty yards
apart, without
so much
as making
eye contact,
we swerved,
switched lanes,
& drove
past each
other on
the wrong
side of
the road.

Surefooted days.

Playing with
magic.

old horses, new tricks

Old Horses, New Tricks

A blacksmith
who floats
amongst whales
will eventually
try to
shoe one.
