knowing when to look away

Knowing When to Look Away

The best
social commentary
is no
social commentary.

Cancel
core values.

Spy on
them under
a microscope.

Watch how
they squirm
for relevance.

Notice how
they’re devoid
of apertures
to let
things in
& let
them
out again.

Pay lip
service to
core values
& close
your eyes.

Paint open
eyes on
the closed
lids.

This way
people will
recognize you
as one
of them.

Now you
can club
baby seals
with impunity.

Now you’re
someone who
knows when
to look
away.

if just a little love had slipped thru

If Just a Little Love Had Slipped Thru

Dreaming
scheming
slinking thru
the torpedo
chamber
of my mind
up periscope
down periscope
fire torpedo
one torpedo
two three
four &
five fire
the lot
of them.

Here come
the depth
charges.

Break
out the
whiskey
the cards
& the
dart board
sing bawdy
pirate songs
shake your
fist at
the enemy
thru the
trembling ocean,
boiling
in oil
above you.

We’ve been
here before.

We feed
off payback
like a
rat eating
styrofoam.

It makes
the eyes
smoke &
things
slip thru
your fingers.

There you
have it–

The size
of things
when you
thumb your
nose
at their
Prozac;

When you
refuse
to turn
loose of
a childhood
that could
have been
so much
different,
if just
a little
love had
slipped thru.

Going Out in a Ball of Fire

I’ve turned
a room
in my
house
into a
kiln &
when it’s
time to
go I’ll
get in
there with
a good
book &
throw
the switch.

Bye-bye Sweet Spring

There’ll be
no migration
to other
planets.

The best
humanity can
hope for
is a
transferral of
our ingenuity
into robotic
consciousness.

Bye-bye
sweet spring.

Bouncing Back

I bounce
off the
wall almost
daily but
always
bounce back
to the
hand that
threw me.

the arc of their energy

The Arc of Their Energy

More &
more I
opt for
parking my
van under
the trees
by the
park after
work instead
of on
the hill
where the
punks in
their pick-ups,
loud &
jarring,
have
taken over.

But these
little kids
racing around
the park,
I’m fascinated
by their
every move.

But that’s
not quite
right they
don’t move
they flow,
I’m fascinated
by their
seamless flow
from one
thing into
another no
lines between
anything they
take things
in &
toss them
out again
in an
uproar of
energy.

Political
debates pale
in the
arc of
this energy.
