spiritual mutant

Spiritual Mutant

Everything
Ray Kurzweil
does is
driven by
a deep
fear of
dying.

He eats
200 pills
a day to
ward off
death &
plans to
one day
construct
something
resembling
his dead
father with
the help
of DNA
from his
grave bones.

This terror
of dying
rendered
Kurzweil
a spiritual
mutant long
before he
began making
plans to
turn himself
into a
tangle of
hardware
a pumping
heart &
artificial
intelligence
that will
live forever.

job offer

Job Offer

I’ve been
offered a
job sitting
behind a
two-way mirror
watching killers
get interrogated.

All I
have to
do is
drink black
coffee chain
smoke &
make observations.

The pay’s
good I
get a
government
car to
drive complete
medical &
two weeks
paid vacation.

I’m not
sure this
is what
I want
to do
with the
rest of
my life,
but I
have an
uneasy
feeling
that if
I turn
it down,
bad things
will happen.

Rewriting History

I rewrote
history but
couldn’t land
a publisher.

knowing your place

Knowing Your Place

I’m least
unhappy when
I stop
trying to
belong.

taking life

Taking Life

There are
a number
of places
on the
human body
where if
hit hard
enough kill
instantly.

You don’t
need a
black belt
in karate
to do
this.

All you
need is
an overwhelming
desire to
hurt someone.

remnants of memory

Remnants of Memory

Long after
names places
& causes
have been
erased
from memory
grief &
resentment
remain,
like headless
horsemen,
their mounts
galloping
thru the
dark night
of a
forgotten past.
