christmas paranoia

Christmas Paranoia

Paranoia is a
barewire
sense of
forces.

Paranoia is a
barewire
sense of
forces.

Paranoia is a
barewire
sense of
forces.

Am I
making you
nervous?

A nervous
paranoid
slips on
the ice &
lies there
weeping
like a
child
like a
woman
like someone
making good
use of
his
tear ducts.

His children
come to
visit at
Christmas
where they’ve
got him
locked down
in a
straitjacket
in a
rubber room.

They wave
thru the
soundproof glass
as he
rolls like
crazy from
one end
of the
room to
the other,
snarling &
biting at
his restraints.

They throw
kisses &
then hightail
it out
of there
wondering
if this
will throw
the will
into probate.

Paranoia is a
barewire
sense of
forces.

Somewhere in
Bethlehem
a child
is born
without
making a
sound.

Well, someone has to offset all this manic, largely fabricated Christmas joy; if you understand why people commit suicide during the holiday season, you’ll understand why a poem like this might prevent them from doing so… merry Christmas.

Written and first sent out during the Christmas season, 2009.

bright bright sunshiny day

Bright Bright Sunshiny Day

A ray
of sunshine
slices thru
a week
of gray
like a
lightning bolt
& your
mind erupts
with bright
angels in
red dresses
blowing
trumpets.

Your chest
swells &
your eyes
sparkle like
sugarplums.

You march
into the
day mad
with joy
singing praise
to miracles.

You dance
around obstacles
disguised as
people striking
poses,
the residue
of the
gray that’s
gone before,
harbingers of
all the
gray that’s
yet to
come.

You don’t
so much
as tip
your hat
to them.

Momentum is
the only
cleansing.

pace & wait

Pace & Wait

Basically
I’m down
to pace
& wait.

I’ve taken
the flag
from the
coffin &
folded it
in the
prescribed
manner to
be presented
to the
bereaved.

Schematic

Meaningful
connections are
chance encounters.

True love
is possible
only in
children.

Playing music
from the
heart contains
many of
the attributes
of true
love.

Hearing music
played from
the heart
can cause
envy.

People who
envy those
who play
music from
the heart
have never
had a
meaningful
chance encounter.

Where you’re
at in
life can
be gauged
by your
reaction
to what
I’ve
said here.

an end to symbols

An End to Symbols

Everything is
symbolic of
something &
some things
are symbolic
of everything
leaving the
universe
of things
existing in
something
considerably
smaller, say
a mind.

Maybe nothing
exists outside
the mind
except the
irreducible
that cradles
it like
a new-born
baby.

things fall apart anyway

Things Fall Apart Anyway

The flaming
cup.

The wayward
impulse.

The smashed
compass dead
reckoning the
educated guess.

The gentleman’s
agreement twenty
paces pivot
& fire.

Ladies in
waiting
widows in
mourning the
day the
angels sang
civilization’s
game plan.

Out with
tree frogs
& Mexicans.

In with
CEOs &
ventriloquists.

High-rise
heaven bottled
water &
snake oil.

Eskimos on
ice polar
bears in
a zoo.

There’s a
safe zone
for anyone
with
fingerprints
& a
passport
a stacked
deck &
a loaded
gun a
circumcision
& a
diaphragm.

I’m sorry
I keep
missing Sunday
football sorry
I don’t
put up
a Christmas
tree sorry
I haven’t
succumbed
to the
pressure.

But at
least you
won’t have
to put
up a
monument or
scrape my
remains into
a coffin.

I plan
to die
in the
wilderness
with a
white
fox &
a crow.

I plan
to return
to the
earth in
increments.

I know,
on one
level this
leaves you
feeling cheated,
but things
were bound
to fall
apart anyway.
