Coming to a Conclusion

What’s the difference between Awake & Dreaming and Dreaming & Awake? Do you want to know why you hesitate? You don’t know, that’s why.

What’s the difference between Knowing What You Know and Not Knowing What You Know? Well, that’s an entirely different kettle of fish.

Back to square one. What’s a kettle of fish? Is it an aphorism or an adage or just a simple Sprichwort? I have all these German words floating thru my brain like free radicals from almost fifty years ago. I’m sorry, I can’t help myself: what’s a free radical? And who set it free? Or was it always that way? Maybe we need to lock up the free radicals before they overthrow the government.

No, I’m not now nor have I ever been a Nazi. I’ve seen the way they march.

I don’t know if I’m awake or dreaming. Maybe both, which would account for all this bizarre speculation. But which came first, that’s the important question. Or did they rise up simultaneously? And if so, out of what?

I could have been a philosopher. Philosophers are people whose lives are pointless. I suppose it doesn’t matter which came first, awake or dreaming or both simultaneously if your life is pointless.

By now you’re probably wondering what I’m driving at. How about a brick wall at 90 miles an hour with no seatbelt?

The answer lies in impact. It’s taken a lifetime to come to that conclusion.
