What the Sparrow Knows

The temperature
today went from
ten degrees to
forty in
less than
eight hours.

The cloud
cover lifted
& there
were the
jagged
snow-covered
mountains.

You seldom
see them
except solo
or in
pairs but
a kettle of
hawks were
soaring
in a
sudden
gale-force
wind.

This is
all the
tiny sparrow
needs to
know to
know its
world is
disappearing.
