the nature of innocence

The Nature of Innocence

There are
no degrees
of innocence.

Innocence is
pure &
has a
profound
effect on
whoever
it touches.

I am
obviously
not innocent
or I
wouldn’t be
running
my mouth
about it.

But I
feel tenderness
towards innocence,
which is
the next
best thing
to having it.

Anyone who
does not
feel tenderness
towards innocence
has lost
his soul.

the waiting game

The Waiting Game

I’m waiting
for the
other shoe
to drop.

The bell
to ring.

The message
to arrive.

The sentence
to be
passed.

The dream
to come
true.

I try
to look
busy while
I wait.

I don’t
stand around
staring,
no good
can come
of that.

People skirt
around me.

Bump
into me.

Laugh spit
& burst
into tears.

The grim
truth shakes
the tree
of life.

One false
move &
I’m
done for.

an unclaimed child

An Unclaimed Child

Bewilderment.

Toxicity.

Emotional bondage,
dream packages
wrapped
in demands.

Step back
from choices.

Choice limits
options.

Choice is
a swift-river
tiger cage,
you can’t
get past
the bamboo.

You’re plagued
by small
snakes &
large rodents,
the harsh
cadence of
foreign tongues.

The secrets
of divinity
are locked
out by
sound bytes.

Eternity
slips away.

Your heart
would break
if you
knew all
that’s passed
you by.

There’s
nothing left
to hold
fast to.

Zen monks
fall by
the wayside.

Only an
unclaimed child
knows how
lost
we are.

Generating Beauty

Birth dying

is a
process that

the wild joy

The Wild Joy

Observe the
wild joy
of first
graders bursting
free at
the end
of a
school day,
racing into
what’s left
of their
wisdom.
