the man who jumped from bridges

The Man Who Jumped from Bridges

Yes it’s
true I
jumped from
the Golden
Gate Bridge
six times.

Which explains
my disfigured
body the
way I
dance &
why sometimes
I burst
out laughing
on crowded
elevators.

alphabet soup

Alphabet Soup

People have
tried making
sense of
life by
creating
alphabets.

Whole nations
& cultures
have
done it.

Alphabets,
the tapeworm
of war.

Alphabets
invent meaning,
invent God,
conjure
manifestoes &
hit lists.

Alphabets dress
us like
scarecrows &
send us
marching in
circles.

the middle ground

The Middle Ground

Think twice
about choosing
the middle
ground.

It’s a
vast savanna
where
lions roam.

myth making in a vacuum

Myth Making in a Vacuum

Ever since
the mid
60s when
I dropped
out of
the University
of Munich
started Vagabond
Press &
wrote The
Night of
the Great
Butcher
my
life has
been a
secret
ongoing myth,
much
of it
played out
in this
high-mountain
valley.

I look
out over
the valley
from my
hilltop
at the
end
of a
fall day
with a
growing sense
of finality
& bruised
accomplishment.

Hope

False hope
is better
than no
hope, while
it lasts.

These Boots Are Made for Walking

With the
right pair
of boots
you can
walk all
over anyone.
