He’d been
out of
the box
his whole
life but
people
in the
box thought
he’d escaped.

The evidence
is piling up
on the
side of
silence.

The temperature
today went from
ten degrees to
forty in
less than
eight hours.
The cloud
cover lifted
& there
were the
jagged
snow-covered
mountains.
You seldom
see them
except solo
or in
pairs but
a kettle of
hawks were
soaring
in a
sudden
gale-force
wind.
This is
all the
tiny sparrow
needs to
know to
know its
world is
disappearing.

Nine cars
with boom
box music
parked on
the hill
one after
the other.
Their windows
shattered &
their tires
went flat
but the
music
never stopped.

Quantum physicists
are beginning
to suspect
that the
pieces of
the puzzle
don’t fit
together.
Or, as
Zen masters
have known
since before
the time
of Christ,
there is
no puzzle.

Why go
to a
doctor
just so
he can
tell me
I’ve got
a spot
on my lung?
They’ve been
telling me
that for
over
forty years.
Every now
& then
they mix
it up &
tell me
it’s on
my kidney.
