full disclosure

Full Disclosure

After the
house guests
left I
watched
Romeo &
Juliet on
DVD &
wept.

I suppose
it’s a
sign of
progress that
I can
do this
now without
putting cigarettes
out on
my arms.

advice to live by

Céline | Louis-Ferdinand Destouches

Advice to Live By

Bukowski’s
“I don’t
hate people I
just seem to
feel better
when they’re
not around”
has become a
brick in
the cornerstone
of my
outlook,
right up
there with
Miller’s
“You may
as well
have your
say they’re
going to
shit on you
anyway”
&
Celine’s
“I piss
on it all
from a
considerable
height.”

running races

Running Races

There was
a time
in my
40s when
I ran
10-K races
in cut-off
jeans &
down-at-the-heels
Adidas with
a six-pack
at the
finish line
just to
watch
the guys
in fancy
Spandex outfits
& hundred-dollar
shoes cave
in when I
overtook them
in the
last hundred yards.

Thirty years
later,
thru with
both running
& drinking,
a cigarette
in one
hand &
a mocha
in the
other, I
watch their
sons running
up the
hill I
write on
in the
same fancy
outfits
with the
same grim
determination.

Waiting for the Drugs to Kick In

Waiting for
the drugs to
kick in
he read
his horoscope
looked at
his watch
& then
stared out
the window.
