what to do afterward

What to Do Afterward

Having had
a glimpse
into the
thoughts of
God
Einstein’s
hair grew
long &
gray &
he began
eating
ice cream
cones.

he spent
the rest
of his

mindless distraction

Mindless Distraction

If you
sit still
long enough
often enough
you come
to realize
that thought
is one
step away
from dream.

You realize
that dream
is a
coalescence of
thought &
thought
is a
distillation of
tangible experience.

What you’re
left with
after this
is anybody’s
guess,
but you’re
ripe for
implosion.

This is
where mindless
distraction
comes in
handy.

late night phone calls

Late Night Phone Calls

I’ve gone
from calling
people in
the middle
of the
night to
never answering
the phone
no matter
who’s calling.

A 30-year
transition that
sums up
how my
life’s
turned out.

Upside Down

Why do
people try
to get
to the
bottom
of things?

Why not
the top?

“Everywhere I go I’m asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don’t stifle enough of them.” — Flannery O’Connor
