A Well-kept Secret
The brain

the brain
will never
divulge
its secrets.

Some people
think it’s
noble to
stumble
thru life,
until they
get knocked
down &
can’t get
up again.

It’s all
ghosts
after awhile.
Ghost loves
ghost glories
ghost flesh.
The brave
heart turns
ghostly, eyes
water &
blur.
Legs tremble
at the
thought of
standing.
Stand legs,
the mind
suggests
half-heartedly,
& out
of habit
they
wobble up.
The stories
of your
youth that
you’ve been
telling
for years
(the first
sign of
what’s
to come)
grow muddled.
This is
the point
at which
most writers
go silent.
Few have
the clarity
to embrace
the fall.

I’m running
out of
people.
Places to
hang
my hat.
Routines,
memories.
Little dolls
with pins
in their
eyes to
take home
to mother.
But
mother’s
gone.
Father
too.
I forgive
myself for
not forgiving
them.
A lie.
I don’t
forgive myself
for anything
Oh,
someone
please
bring me
a platter
stacked high
with
happy days!

Two chubby
boys around
the age
of twelve
just walked
past my
van &
one of
them was
saying,
“I’m going
to kill
my Dad.
He says
I’m a
fool &
won’t
amount to
anything.”

Inspiration cannot
be shared
only dissipated
or disseminated
& disseminated
it dissipates.
