Barbarians at the Gate

Once we
batter down
the gates we
slaughter the
men drink
all the
wine &
the women.
Newborns we
leave behind
for the wolves
sturdy youths
we turn
into warriors.
Young girls we
turn over to
the nunneries
the nuns themselves
we never touch–
we’re wary
of their
crucified god
on his
wooden cross,
he looks like
he means


We lend
an ear
to their
thinkers that’s
how we
learned to
use the
We dunk
babies in
oil light
them up &
shoot them
over the
city wall.
It’s our
first stab
at psychological
warfare &
it seems
to be
