vanishing point

Vanishing Point

Off came
the face
masks &
out came
the stilettos.

The obese
king retracted
his pardons.

Up went
the gallows
down came
the guillotine.

Blood in
the gutters,
dead birds
in the
steeple.

Naysayers &
soothsayers
raised the
battle cry.

The pace
picked up,
a faint
trace of
prophecy.

Children grew
horns &
goat’s feet.

Music was
the next
to go,
then high
math &
the rainbow.

It wasn’t
what they’d
expected.

The Beast
roared.

There are
no words
to tally
up the
misgivings.

No way
to light the
dark ocean.

All this
just before
everything vanished.

seeing into the future

Seeing into the Future

He saw
the whole
thing from
the cradle
when a
woman pinched
his cheeks
& said
koochie koo.

a radical analysis of what spawns child stabbings shooting sprees & the occasional bombing of a federal building

A Radical Analysis of What Spawns Child Stabbings Shooting Sprees & the Occasional Bombing of a Federal Building

Roll the
dice take
your chances.

Make mud
pies call
them
wrinkle
paste.

Slap them
on your
face stop
the aging.

Toss words
in the
jumble box
roll them
back out as
bingo balls.

Sell them
to the
American Legion.

Piece together
a livelihood.

Look straight
ahead, that’s
where the
future lies,
smeared in
grease paint.

Oh, slings
of outrageous
fortune!

I’m sinking
like a
stone of
forgetfulness.

I’m almost
not born again.

This is
what happens
when they
cut you
out of
the soup line.

strength in numbers

Strength in Numbers

There’s strength
in numbers
but not
a whole
lot of
intelligence.

business as usual

Business as Usual

Someone put
a black
widow spider
in my
Corn Flakes
box.

I built
it a
nest in
the hair
of my
armpit &
every morning
when I
wake up
I snatch
a fly
out of
the air
& feed
it to
the spider.

Then I
get dressed
& walk
around like
nothing’s
out of
the ordinary.

the people who run the world

The People Who Run the World

The world
is run
by people
who left
to their
own resources
could never
create the
machinery with
which they
run the
world –
guns &
bombs cars
& planes
& video
games
telescopes
TVs
cell phones
electric chairs
& cathedrals.

The only
thing the
people who
run the world
know about
is power
& how to
get it.

The only
thing they’re
good at
is appropriation.

They feed on
the beauty
talent
goodness &
genius of
others,
they debase
it &
manipulate it.

The only
thing the
people who
run the
world came
up with
on their
own is
money, an
abstraction
that makes
beauty
talent
goodness &
genius go
flatline.

Do we
really
need them?

Can we
live
without them?
