children of the devices

Children of the Devices

There they
sit, plugged
in or
snatching cues
from the
atmosphere,
children of
the devices.

There’s
so much
they can’t
access &
darkness
waiting if
they step
off the
grid into
a noose
of circular
memory,
fire &
brimstone
raining down
upon their
digital
alliance.

monkeys in a zoo

Monkeys in a Zoo

When people
get old,
really old,
like 90
or 100,
young people
marvel at
them like
monkeys in
a zoo.

devoured by loneliness

consciousness

Devoured by Loneliness

It had
been happening
gradually his
whole life
until it
reached a
point he
became aware
of it
but by
then it
was too
late to
do anything
about it,
not that he
wanted to.

His corporal
being was
thinning into
pure consciousness.

Consciousness
trapped in
a body,
when the
body dies,
dies with it,
but his
consciousness
escaped his
body before
that happened.

He was
invisible now
& trapped
in a
world vacant
of awareness
beyond his
own consciousness,
& with
nothing left
to reflect
on but
itself, his
consciousness
was devoured
by loneliness.

hate as a sure bet

Hate As a Sure Bet

People who
say they
hate you
really
mean it.

People who
say they
love you
nine times
out of
ten don’t
know what
they’re
talking about.

preparing for the end

Preparing for the End

People who
stockpile guns
& ammo &
canned food
may not
be as
crazy as
some people
think.

axiom for survival

Axiom for Survival

People who
are too
well cannot
help people
who are
not well
at all.
